In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus stated the following: “Therefore, every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.” (13:52)
The academic program at Asheville Christian Academy can be described in a similar way – utilizing the treasures of educational wisdom and knowledge, both traditional and modern. We highly value the core components that characterize a rich liberal arts education. From using a phonemic approach for teaching emergent readers to having an intentional focus on classic literary standards in upper school humanities, we provide a full liberal arts curriculum thoroughly infused with a Christian worldview.
So too, we see the wisdom of using the developmental approach found in the ancient Trivium and its corresponding content in the Quadrivium. However, we also utilize alternative instructional approaches because not all students learn in the same way. The aim of our program is to prepare students to learn for a lifetime and to think critically from a solid biblical foundation. On top of that, we are also a college-preparatory academy. Thus, our program of advanced level classes, foreign languages and portfolio-building opportunities are a priority for all upper level students as they pursue their university dreams.
The distinctive mark of the academic program at the Academy is that our course of study combines the best of classical and modern form and content with an authentic biblical worldview. Developing students who love learning, think deeply and communicate effectively is a hallmark of Asheville Christian Academy.
