Each year the Fine Arts Department presents a musical created entirely by middle school students!
The Middle School Musical is an extra-curricular activity that takes place between the Fall and Winter athletic seasons. Building on the fundamentals learned in choir and drama elective classes, interested seventh and eighth grade students participate in preparing and performing a junior musical. The production is open to all students regardless of experience.
During the school day, students have the opportunity to enroll in "Set Design" class. This class works to design, construct, and paint the backdrops for the Middle School Musical and then also helps with portions of the Upper School Musical.
The Upper School presents two major productions each year. As an entirely extra-curricular activity, any student may participate in all aspects of each production. Our first production is a play and the second is a musical. For both productions, students are auditioned and may choose to participate on stage, back stage, in the tech booth, pit orchestra, and also in building the stage sets. Many students who are part of the program experience multiple parts of the production process through the years. The spirit of camaraderie and the focus on enjoying the process of bringing a production to stage brings students back year after year. Each year, we select shows that will both highlight the talent of our students and also present redeemable themes.
