Lower School Music

In the lower school general music program, students experience the world through music and movement. Through song, instruments, and motion, our lower school students learn about different music cultures and how to create music themselves. Through a large variety of xylophones, marimbas, recorders, and percussion instruments, students learn how to feel, read, and perform music.

During the year, lower school students get to showcase what they have learned at three unique concerts. Grandparent's Day begins the year and offers the students a great opportunity to start the year with a lighter concert that focuses on the appreciation of Grandparents. During the Christmas season, our second concert is more developed and focused solely on the birth of Christ. Finally, our Fine Arts Night is a celebration that ends the year, and displays all that has been learned through both music and the visual art classes.

Starting in fifth grade, our students have the opportunity to learn a Concert Band instrument. Selecting from flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and mallets each student has the opportunity to discover the enjoyment of instrumental music. Meeting for band twice a week, in addition to general music, allows the students to learn an instrument before heading into middle school. The fifth grade band performs twice each year, the Christmas Concert and Fine Arts Night.
